Mother of Love and Compassion

Mother of love and compassion
Bestow your wisdom upon me
Help me see humanity through your eyes
Help me master the love and compassion
That you have in your heart of gold
Help me shine like a beacon in the night
And see my reflection in your tears of love
I thank you for your tireless love
And your patience and hope for humanity

forest goddess
gorgeous but delicate
moon diamonds in her hair
beauty like sweet eternity
symphony gardens true in language
love petals shining like luscious pink gifts
She is pleased with her elaborate drive
honey smooth rain beneath the girl’s finger
dream like mist visions of languid shadows
watching the picture of music whisper to the winter
how strangely the dream becomes clearer
soon the crimson sun will rise
the dream will be over
winter chased away by bidding winds
vivid hues now come out to play
soft smells waken the fair goddess

The Story of Chang-O

Once up a time, many centuries ago, there were ten suns circling in the skies. With so much sunlight the fields were burning up and the streams and rivers were running dry. The ruling Emperor decided that only the greatest archer in his kingdom could save the world. He called the Archer Yi, a man of great strength and skill, to his court and asked him to shoot down nine of the ten suns. The Archer Yi took aim and one by one brought the suns down until only one shone. As a reward, the Emperor asked Yi what gift he would claim. Yi asked for immortality.

So the Emperor asked the Gods to create an elixir of immortality to give to Yi. Before giving him the elixir, The Emperor warned Yi to drink only half of the mixture. But before Yi could taste of the drink, his wife, Chang-O, stole the vial. She knew what the Emperor did not know, that Yi was a cruel man, and rather than let him live forever she drank the mixture. But she had not heard the warning and when she drained the vial, her body became so light that she began to float skyward. Just before she floated away from the earth she pulled her pet rabbit to her and took it with her into the sky until she reached the moon, where she and the rabbit remain to this day.

During the autumn months, when Chinese eat traditional moon cakes and stay up late to view the moon in her honor, you can see Chang-O and her pet rabbit on the moon, blessing the world with grace, harmony, and peace.

The Charge of The Goddess

Now listen to the words of the great mother, who was of old also called: Artemis, Astarte, Athene, Dione, Melusine, Aphrodite, Cerridwen, Diana, Arianrhod, Isis, Brighid, Mary, and by many other names:

Whenever you have need of anything, once in the month and better it be when the moon is full, then you shall assemble in some secret place and adore the Spirit of me, I who am queen. There you shall assemble, you who are fain to learn the mysteries yet have not won its deepest secrets. To these will I teach all things that are as yet unknown. And you shall be free from slavery, and as a sign that you be truly free be naked, you shall dance, sing, feast, and make music and love, all in my praise. For mine is the ecstasy of the spirit, and mine also is joy on earth, for my law is love unto all beings.

Keep pure your highest ideals. Strive ever towards them, let nothing stop you nor turn you aside. For mine is the secret door which opens upon the land of youth, and mine is the cup of the wine of life and the cauldron, which is the holy vessel of immortality.

I am the gracious Goddess who gives the gift of joy unto the heart of man. Upon earth I give the knowledge of the spirit eternal and beyond death I give peace and freedom and reunion with those who have gone before. Nor do I demand sacrifice, for I am the Mother of all living, and my love is poured out upon the earth.

Hear the words of the Holy Mother, the dust of whose feet are the hosts of Heaven, whose body encircles the universe: I am the beauty of the green earth and the white moon among the stars, the mystery of the waters, and the desire of the heart of man. I call upon thy soul to arise and come unto me. For I am the soul of nature who gives life to the universe. From me all things proceed and unto me all things must return. Before my face, beloved of angels and men, let thine innermost divine self be enfolded in the rapture of infinite joy. Let my worship be within the heart that rejoices, for all acts of love and pleasure are my rituals.

Therefore, let there be beauty and strength, power and compassion, honor and humility, mirth and reverence within you. And you who think to seek for me, know your seeking and yearning shall avail you not, unless you know the mystery: if that which you seek you find not within yourself, you will never find it without. For behold, I have been with you from the beginning and I am that which is attained at the end of desire.

Prayer to Artemis

Artemis, huntress and goddess
of the moon, make my aim true.

Give me goals to seek and the
constant determination to achieve them.

Grant me communion with nature, that
I may live surrounded by plants and
animals that I can grow, protect, and nurture.

Give me the strength and wisdom to
be my own mistress, not defined by
the expectations of others.

And sustain my passion to be as yours,
strong and wild and free as nature itself.

The Laws of Nature

I know the laws of nature are you Lady
Keep me mindful that I step
Upon your body with your feet
That my sorrows are your sorrows
And that a healthy woman
Makes all things sound

I feel your breath in the wind
And your hand in mine
Keep me sincere and give me your work
Which is to be joyous and tend all things
Because all things live of themselves
And with your spirit
Your will through mine

Holy Mother, in whom we live, move, and have our being
From you all things emerge and unto you all things return.
Please bless this path I walk now that I may feel it flowing from
your pleasure and bounty and boundless intelligence.

Holy Mother, in whom we live, move, and have our being
From you all things emerge and unto you all things return.
So now I give this work to you, for though all is yours it is
possible to run from your love. Instead I raise my face like
the child’s to the mother that I may live in
your pleasure and bounty and boundless intelligence.

Bring me your vision and show me the mysteries.
You reside in myself so that I shine with my own unique divinity.
Lend me the earth and waters, air and fire. Fill me with these
elements, these powers of creation grown in your garden
So that I may be safe in this world and happy and one with you.

-Capricorn’s Quest, adapted from T. Thorn Coyle, Holy Mother Prayer:

“Holy Mother in Whom we live move and have our being
From you all things emerge and unto you all things return.
Open our hearts this blessed day, touch our bodies and our minds.
Walk with us through the gates of power.
In shadow and starlight
in fire meeting earth
in the wind on the ocean
and the sweet kiss of life.
Blessed be our Journey.”

I Am The Goddess’s Beloved

I am the Goddess’s beloved.
My lungs take in Her breath.
My veins run with Her red.
Blessed are the feet
that have walked my path
of trials and pleasures.
My hands are Her hands.
I am God as surely as
I created the universe at the beginning.
I need bow down to no one
nor before any deity.
My body is Her body,
glistening with the sweat of Stars.
My tears and my sex are Her gifts;
I bestow these as I will.

Goddess within and without,
fill me with the light
that exposes evil;
fill me with the light
that evil flees from;
fill me with the light
that illuminates me in my hiding,
that I may come from hiding
and bathe in the joy of the light.

Blessed Lady

Blessed lady you are everywhere but I honor you here
You have no one true form so I honor you in many forms
You need no praise but I offer my prayers to you
And ask that you aid me on this journey

Blessed be my feet that lead me on this path
Blessed be my knees which support me before the divine
Blessed be my belly which gives me inner strength
Blessed by my breast which holds my heart true to you
Blessed be my lips which speak your sacred names
Blessed be my eyes that see the beauty in all that is around me
Blessed be my mind which seeks your divine wisdom

Bless me lady for I am your child
We are of the earth, the sky, the sun and the sea
I am of you and you are of me
Blessings to you are given and I ask to receive all your blessings in this lifetime
May the peace and love of the Goddess be always in our hearts

Heart Blessing

Mother of love and compassion
Grant me this blessing:

Give me a new heart
A heart that radiates goodwill
A heart that is not hardened or embittered
A heart that while living in the flesh
Is not ruled by the flesh
A heart that forgets its wounds
And reaches out in pardon
A heart that is slow to anger
And abounding in love
A heart full of compassion
That never condemns
